About your new role

The Regulatory Department is a market leading national team offering a diverse and broad range of expert advice to organisations and individuals facing health & safety, criminal, environmental and other regulatory prosecutions.  We are one of the largest Regulatory teams nationally. 


Whilst we have a team of specialist criminal and regulatory lawyers within the Regulatory team, as part of our growth and expansion, we are looking for a solicitor to join our ongoing teams dedicated to public inquiry work.  Our team are involved in some of the most high-profile and sensitive public inquiries ongoing in the country at the moment.

The candidate would have a passion for regulatory and in particular inquests and inquiries, have experience in working on projects or part of a big case with a wider team. The candidate would also need to be able to work independently and perform a role in the team’s client-facing work. 

We can consider applications from all of regional locations, but Leeds & Manchester are preferable.

Main Duties

  • To work cohesively as part of a team on one of our biggest ongoing cases. 
  • To be able to review, analyse and organise a large volume of materials in order to prepare for evidential hearings. 
  • To ensure you maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant areas of regulatory law, updates, legislation etc.
  • Assist with business development initiatives including training and networking.
  • Produce monthly and ad-hoc client MI reports.
  • Work in accordance with client and internal SLAs.
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values and procedures.

About You

  • A passion for regulatory is essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative is essential.
  • Experience of inquests or inquiries is desirable.
  • Experience of criminal practice and process is desirable.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets is essential.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
